Description of the genus

Monoecious evergreen trees or shrubs. Mature leaves scale-like, appressed, in whorls of 3; juvenile leaves narrow, pointed. Male cones oblong-cylindric. Female cones with 6-8 woody scales. Seeds with 1-3 broad wings.

Derivation of name: probably derived from the Greek, kallistos, most beautiful, referring to the whole plant

Worldwide: 14 species in Australia

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
