Description

Thanks to the environmental awareness of the local headman, some surprisingly well preserved riverine forest can still be found where the main road from Mutare to Birchenough Bridge crosses the Umvumvumvu River. Among thickets of Acacia schweinfurthii (Mimosaceae) and Maclura africana (Moraceae), impressive specimens are still present of typically low-altitude riverine trees, such as Breonadia salicina (Rubiaceae) and Diospyros mespiliformis (Ebenaceae).
