Biography

Doctor of science from University of Liège in 1957. His career began as an assistant to R. Bouillenne whom he regularly accompanied to the Hautes-Fagnes scientific station at Mont Rigi, he managed the Léon Fredericq Museum until 1954. He than moved to Central Africa and was appointed temporary researcher at the Institute for Scientific Research in Central Africa (IRSAC), in Mabali. At the signing of the Belgian-Rwandan convention, in 1964, P. Deuse became director of the Butare station of the National Institute for Scientific Research (INRS) (Rwanda). Paul Deuse died on the plane which was repatriating him (ill) from Rwanda, a plane which was obliged to stop in Vienna to drop off the body. His collections of vascular plants and bryophytes are kept in BR, YGI, LWIRO.
