Description: |
Laxly tufted annual grass up to 80 cm tall. Culms usually straggling and ascending from a procumbent base, rarely erect, much branched and often rooting from the nodes. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 5–20 cm long, sharply pointed at the apex. Inflorescence dense, linear, 8–30 cm long, with crowded racemes 1.5–6 mm apart; racemes oblong to cuneate, 0.6–1.6 cm long, ascending when young, reflexing and deciduous when older. Spikelets 1–2-flowered, 5–8 mm long, closely overlapping on a narrowly green-winged rhachis; glumes narrowly elliptic, asymmetric, usually overlapping and obscuring the florets, glandular along the keel; lemmas narrowly ovate, 2–3 mm long, usually appressed-hairy along the lateral nerves and on the lower half of the back. |
