Common names:
Densely caespitose perennial; culms up to 120 cm tall, erect or geniculately ascending; basal leaf sheaths persistent, densely packed; leaf laminas 7.5–27 cm × 2–5 mm, flat or rarely involute.Racemes (1)2–4, 13–22 cm long, straight or slightly flexuous.Spikelets 3.5–6 mm long (excluding the awns), 2-flowered; glumes narrowly lanceolate in profile, very acute to shortly awned, the inferior a little longer than the superior; fertile lemma c. 3.8 mm long, with an awn up to 37.5 mm long; second floret 0.5–1 mm long, with an awn up to 20 mm long; anthers 0.1–0.15 mm long.

Habitat: In mopane woodlands on sandy alluvium, and in black alluvium at low altitudes
