Common names:
Perennial, culms up to 95 cm tall, densely tufted, arising from scale-covered creeping rhizomes. Culm 3-angled. Leaves with leaf-sheath reddish-brown to purple, 2-18 cm long, leaf blade absent or reduced to 1 cm long, then reddish-brown.
Derivation of specific name: denudatus: denuded, without leaf-blades.
