Description: |
Slender terrestrial herb, up to 50 cm. Stem and inflorescence glandular hairy. Leaves near the base of the stem, lanceolate-elliptic. Inflorescence 5-many-flowered, often pyramidal at first, more elongated later. Flowers small, pink, mauve or purple; dorsal sepal forming a hood with the petals; lateral sepals spreading; lip linear-ligulate, entire; spur 3-5 mm long. |
Notes: | Var. ecalcarata is only found on the Nyika Plateau in Malawi and Zambia. It has no spur. |
Derivation of specific name: | anacamptoides: resembling Anacamptis, a European genus of ground orchids. |
Habitat: | In vleis, bogs and seepage areas in grassland. |
