Description:
Terrestrial, sometimes epiphytic or lithophytic herb up to 35 cm tall. Leaves 2-3, alternate along the stem, ascending-spreading, sheathing at the base, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, c. 11 × 4 cm. Inflorescence somewhat lax, few-many-flowered. Flowers c. 8 mm in diameter, mauve to purple often with darker spots or stripes. Dorsal sepal forming a hood with an ascending and down-curved spur 6-8 mm long. Lip minute,erect.

Derivation of specific name: maculata: spotted, blotched
Habitat: In shaded forest areas, often on rocks, rotting logs and living trees.
