Slender terrestrial herb up to 30 cm high, growing from an underground, elongated tuber c. 4 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. Leaves 3-5, hardly developed at flowering time, linear, up to about 8 cm long and 3 mm wide. Inflorescence laxly 3–15-flowered. Pedicel and ovary 8–10 mm long, the ovary developing on the lowest flowers while the upper ones are still in bud. Sepals greenish-purple, semi-erect, recurved at the tips, narrowly lanceolate or oblanceolate, 10–20 mm long, pointed at the apex; petals lilac or pale pink with darker veins, oblong-linear, 8–16 mm long, lying over the column; lip 9–16 mm long, 3-lobed; side lobes short, green with purple veins, mid-lobe pale lilac with purple veins, with 3 lacerate crests running from the base to below the apex, and white papillae; spur green, 3–6 mm long, slender, cylindrical, obtuse, straight or slightly recurved.
Derivation of specific name: acutilabra: with a pointed lip.
Habitat: In Brachystegia woodland.
