Description:
Terrestrial herb 60–95 cm tall. Leaves 3–4, the lowest 2 sheathing, linear, 5–35 cm long, grass-like, absent or just starting to develop at flowering time. Inflorescence laxly up to 8-flowered; bracts linear, 10–30 mm long, spreading. Flowers pale greenish-yellow, usually flushed with purple. Sepals erect or spreading, lanceolate, 17–34 mm long, sometimes with the edges inrolled. Petals elliptic-ovate, 18–23 mm long, projecting over column. Lip 3-lobed at about halfway; side lobes erect, mid-lobe deflexed, flabellate-obovate, 7–15 mm long, with a callus of 7–11 low, verrucose ridges. Spur 3–7 mm long, conical, blunt, forming a right-angle to the lip.

Derivation of specific name: flavopurpurea: yellow-purple.
Habitat: Seasonally wet or swampy grassland and dambos.

Worldwide distribution: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Burundi, DRC, CAR, Uganda, Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
