Description: |
Terrestrial herb up to 40 cm tall. Leaves 3–7, forming a fan, linear, 17–26 cm long, grass-like, well developed at flowering time. Inflorescence laxly 6–10-flowered; bracts 8–18 mm long, lanceolate. Sepals green, mottled olive-brown, oblanceolate to elliptic-oblong, 13–17 mm long, dorsal sepal erect, laterals spreading. Petals bright yellow, lying over column, ovate-elliptic, 10–13 mm long. Lip bright yellow, 11.5–15 mm long, 3-lobed, with 3–7 undulate lamellae running the entire length of the lip; side lobes triangular; spur cylindrical, 3–7 mm long, bent down at about halfway, slightly swollen, bifid and often reddish at the apex. |
Notes: | Malawi specimens tend to have slightly larger flowers than those from Zimbabwe, but otherwise it did not seem possible to separate E. inyangensis from E. monticola on the basis of the few specimens available. |
