Description:
Scrambling shrub up to c. 3 m high, armed with sharp, paired hooked thorns. Branches smooth, green, hairless. Leaves elliptic or rhomboid, up to 5 × 2.5 cm, thinly textured, shiny above, hairless on both sides. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered clusters in the upper leaf axils. Sepals lilac or green, hairless except for bearded margins; petals cream, hairy on the outside. Stamens c. 6, up to c. 2 cm long.
Notes: Note: This taxon, mostly known from coastal areas, has been included on the basis of a number of records at SRGH (one from Mana Pools in division N, the remainder from the E Division).

Although C. viminea var. orthacantha (Gilg & Gilg-Ben.) De Wolf is listed in the Checklist of Zimbabwean Vascular Plants (Mapaura & Timberlake, 2004), no records for that variety were found.
