Description:
Deciduous shrub, rarely a small tree, 1-4 m tall. Leaves bipinnate with up to 40 pairs of pinnae, each with up to 48 pairs of leaflets. Leaflets up to 12 mm long, hairless, midrib starting to one side but somewhat central at the pointed apex. Flowers in axillary spikes, normally appearing before the new leaves, creamy-yellow, often tinged reddish with conspicuous stamens. Pod up to 45 cm long, more or less cylindric, breaking away from the persistent margins.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: goetzei: after Walter Goetze (1872-1899), German naturalist, explorer, photographer and collector of botanical and zoological specimens in Tanzania.
Habitat: In woodland and scrub, often in rocky places.

Worldwide distribution: From Tanzania to Mpumalanga, South Africa.
