Frequency: Very locally common.
Status: Introduced
Description:
Shrub up to 3 m tall with long arching branches, sometimes scrambling into the surrounding vegetation. Leaves pinnate with 4-5 pairs of obovate-elliptic leaflets, rounded at the apex, usually hairy; glands present on the rhachis between each pair of leaflets. Flowers golden-yellow, in axillary racemes, up to c. 10 cm long, often crowded towards the ends of branches. Pods cylindric and more or less inflated, straight or slightly curved, up to c. 20 cm long, brown.
Notes: This species has often been confused with S. bicapsularis. That species has leaves with 2-3 pairs of leaflets and only has a gland between the lowest pair of leaflets.
Derivation of specific name: pendula: drooping, pendulous.
Habitat: Cultivated as a garden ornamental and locally naturalised and invading disturbed areas along roadsides and in riverine vegetation.
