This variety is distinguished by unbranched, mostly terminal inflorescences with pedicels up to 1 cm long. Leaves are usually less than 6.5 cm long and the winged petiole up to 3 cm long. At least 7 varieties have been described and many characters are not easy to recognize in the field particularly when plants are not flowering. Some characters are also known to merge between certain varieties in certain areas. |
Notes: | Var. pteropus is the only variety that has been recorded from Zimbabwe. |

Habitat: | Brachystegia woodland, associated grassland and margins of dambos. |
