Description:
See var. axillare for general details. This variety differs in the stems being more or less sparsely appressed hairy (not hairless as the variety name suggests). The beak on the pod is usually longer (5-15 mm long).
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: axillare: axillary, arising in the leaf axils
glabrum: without hairs, glabrous.
Habitat: Miombo and mixed woodland, grassland, often near rivers. Also persisting in disturbed areas.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1800 m

Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Tropical and South Africa, Madagascar, Mascarene Islands, Yemen and Sri Lanka.
