Description:
Large shrub-sized herb, up to 3 m. All parts covered in soft and prickly hairs, which may cause itching when touched. Leaves large, variably 3-5 lobed. Epicalyx bracts 6-12, linear. Flowers pale pink to deep mauve-red in small clusters in the upper leaf axils.

Derivation of specific name: urens: burning, stinging, referring to the irritant hairs covering this plant.
Habitat: Along forest margins and in associated secondary scrub in high rainfall areas.
Altitude range: (metres) 600 - 2000 m
Flowering time:Feb - May
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Tropical Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Madagascar, Reunion and the Mascarene Islands.
