Description: |
Shrub or small semi-deciduous tree. Bark pale brownish-grey, more or less distinctly longitudinally fissured, often purple-brown and peeling on small branchlets, revealing pale underbark. Leaves clustered near the ends of branches, subsessile, elliptic to obovate, 9-15 cm long, green above and mostly hairless, bluish-green below, sometimes with appressed hairs on the midrib; margin entire. Flowers small, cream to pale yellow, in axillary spikes, 6-11 cm long. Fruit elliptic-oblong, up to 5 × 3.5 cm, broadly winged, bright red when young, drying to purple-brown. |

Notes: | Note: this species is known to hybridize with T. sericea. The leaves are then usually somewhat smaller and more petiolate than in T. brachystemma and less hairy than in T. sericea. |
