Description:
Small to medium-sized tree. Branches and leaves often have a drooping appearance. Inflorescences axillary and terminal in creamy white, rounded heads. Flowers sweetly scented, showing a mass of stamens. Fruits ellipsoid, purple to almost black when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: guineense: of Guinea,referring to West Africa in general.
Habitat: In woodland and wooded grassland, rocky hillsides and in riverine vegetation.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1750 m
Flowering time:Aug - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical Africa and South Africa as far as KwaZulu-Natal.
