Description:
Hairless perennial herb up to 1 m tall, growing from a creeping rhizome with tuberous nodules. Stems hollow, finely grooved, mostly unbranched below the inflorescence. Leaves pinnate up to 35 cm long; leaflets stiff and somewhat leathery, angled and overlapping like louvered slats, particularly in young leaves, irregularly ovate; margin thick and hardened with strongly developed teeth. Inflorescences sparsely branched with compound umbels with up to 25 rays; bracts numerous, linear-lanceolate, up to 10 mm long. Subumbels 10-25-flowered, greenish-white to yellow. Fruit slightly compressed, conspicuously ribbed.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: imbricata, overlapping, imbricate, referring to the leaflets.
Habitat: In bogs, marshes, grassland and woodland.
