Description:
Robust perennial up to 2.5 m tall. Leaves 2-3-pinnate with ultimate segments linear-lanceolate, 6-15 mm wide; margin regularly serrate, less often irregularly cut; petiole with large basal sheaths, hairless or almost so. Umbels terminal and lateral. Rays 10-15, smooth. Bracts and bracteoles small linear. Petals greenish-yellow. Fruit oblong to elliptic, strongly flattened, slightly emarginate at the base. Stylopodium more or less free.
Notes: J.F.M. Cannon in FZ 4 notes that this species is very similar to and possibly conspecific with P. nyassicum and this concept has been followed in SRGH where the P. eylesii material is placed under P. nyassicum.
However, we have kept these species separate for the time being.
Derivation of specific name: eylesii: named after Frederick Eyles (1864 - 1937)
Habitat: In vleis and marshy areas
Altitude range: (metres) 1500 - 2200 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and possibly also in Tanzania and DRC.
