Description:
Perennial herb, prostrate, ascending or erect, sometimes shrubby with an unpleasant goat-like smell. Stems branched or unbranched, 1 m long or more, often sticky glandular, growing from a large woody rootstock. Leaves elliptic to obovate, 3-7 cm long, often sticky glandular, decurrent onto the stem at the base; margin entire or wit a single tooth each side. Flower solitary or 3 together in the leaf axils, usually crowded towards the ends of branches. Bracts leafy, 3-12 mm long, glandular. Calyx 10-21 mm long with strap-shaped lobes, sticky glandular. Corolla pale mauve to bluish-mauve, finely velvety outside, pleated part of the throat orange; tube brownish, 22-45 mm long; lobes ovate to oblong or obovate, 6-13 mm long. Capsule 10-19 mm long, finely velvety in the apical part.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: linifolia: with line-like (linear) leaves.
Habitat: In miombo and other types of woodland, on rocky hillsides and also on metalliferous or serpentine soils.
