Description:
Bushy perennial herb, mostly less than 1 m tall. Stems with a mixture of short white and longer yellowish hairs. Leaves elliptic, oblong or ovate, 1-4.2 cm long, often immature at flowering time, hairs buff or golden-yellow on both surfaces but most dense on the prominent veins beneath; margin rolled under when young; petiole 0-3 mm long. Flowers axillary, 1-2 together on peduncles 13-42 mm long; bracteoles ovate or elliptic to linear, 2-7 mm long; margin entire with a recurved apex; pedicels 0-6 mm long. Calyx green to pinkish with darker reticulate venation; outer lobes elliptic, oblong or lanceolate, 9-20 mm long, buff- to yellow-strigose; margin entire; lateral lobes lanceolate, 9-16 mm long. Corolla 31-48 mm long, mauve, or rarely white to pale pink, sometimes with a yellow throat, pubescent on the outside, 5-lobed with 2 smaller upper lobes and 3 large lobes (3 lateral and one lower). Capsule 17-21 mm long, hairless except for an apical tuft.
