| Description: |
Much-branched, spiny small shrub, up to c. 40 cm high; stems pubescent. Leaves opposite, elliptic to lanceolate, up to 1.5 cm long, spine-tipped, strigose on the margin, midrib and veins beneath; petiole up to 2.5 mm long. Flowers in 2-8-flowered clusters in of the leaf axils of each pair of leaves near the ends of branches; bracteoles spiny, largest 9-17 mm long. Calyx mauve when young, later drying pale-coloured; lobes lanceolate, largest up to 14 mm long; margin with short lateral spines. Corolla 22-37 mm long, blueish mauve or lilac, pubescent outside with both glandular and eglandular hairs. Capsule 9-12.5 mm long, hairless. |
