Description:
Erect or rarely decumbent annual herb. Stems up to 50 cm long, silky hairy. Leaves linear-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic or ovate, 4-11 cm long, hairless or with a few hairs along the midrib below; margin entire. Flowers in subspherical heads along the stems. Bracts linear-lanceolate, up to 5 cm long finely hairy; margin with thin recurved bristles up to 4 mm long. Corolla white to pale blue or lilac, 10-16 mm long; lip obovate-spathulate, 3-5 mm wide, distinctly 3-lobed, central lobe longest.

Habitat: In deciduous woodland, often sandy soils or seasonally wet depressions, vleis and lake shores.
