Description: |
Pyrophytic perennial with unbranched stems up to 25 cm high, growing from a creeping woody rootstock. Leaves opposite, sessile, elliptic to obovate, 6-13 cm long, usually finely velvety on the veins only. Inflorescence a spike 2-5 cm long on a pubescent peduncle, 1-9 cm long. Bracts elliptic or obovate to almost circular, 13-22 mm long; margin with 6-10 spreading teeth on each side, 1-6 mm long, larger ones often with a lateral tooth. Corolla primrose-yellow to deep orange; tube straight, 13-19 mm long; limb 14-18 mm long. Capsule c. 12 mm long, hairy at the tip. |
Notes: | This species is recorded for Zimbabwe in FZ 8-6: 99 (2013). However, the specimen in the images was collected right at the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border and, although cited for the Mozambique MS-Division in FZ, it is stored at SRGH as coming from the E-Division in Zimbabwe. |
