Description:
Erect annual herb. Stems angular, ribbed with spreading branches. Leaves narrowly lanceolate to ovate or elliptic, more or less hairy with conspicuous veins. Inflorescences initially axillary, joining into large, often branched scorpioid cymes. Flowers in hairy, broadly rounded bracts, white to purple.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: bracteata: with (conspicuous) bracts; bracteose.
Habitat: In a wide variety of habitats, particularly in disturbed soil.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1450 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea ,Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Also in Yemen, Oman and possibly India.
