Description:
Shrub or small evergreen tree. Leaves opposite, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, 10-20 cm long, thinly textured, usually hairless, sometimes finely hairy below; margin entire, slightly rolled under. Flowers in compact, subsessile, axillary clusters, white, bearded inside the corolla. Fruit a spherical 4-6-lobed drupe, c. 10mm in diameter, bright blue, crowned with the remains of the calyx.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: kilimandscharicus: of Mt kilimanjaro, Tanzania.
Habitat: In the understorey of evergreen and riverine forest.
Altitude range: (metres) 900 - 2300 m
Flowering time:Sep - Feb
Worldwide distribution: DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
