Description:
Usually prostrate annual herb, with trailing stems to 30 cm. Leaves 1.3 - 7 cm, pinnatifid; lobes oblong. Capitula somewhat flattened to conical, terminal, solitary or 2-3 together, each capitulum 6-13 mm in diameter. Phyllaries obtuse at apex, the inner with a membranous margin. Achene c. 2mm. Pappus of numerous short, paleaceous teeth.
Notes: Grangea species can be confused with Cotula anthemoides, which is also a small composite with rayless yellow flowers occurring in aquatic situations.
Derivation of specific name: maderaspatana: from the Madras region of India
Habitat: In wet places, such as river beds and by streams.
