Common names: Bow-wood (English) Button-wood (English) Cross-berry (English) Mumaka (Shona) Musosobiana (Shona) Umsosobiyane (Ndebele)
Description: Shrub or small tree, often scrambling. Leaves elliptic to slightly ovate, up to 14 cm long, 3-veined from the symmetric base, somewhat shiny green above, somewhat paler below, sparsely hairy mainly on the veins; margin scalloped or toothed. Flowers leaf-opposed, solitary or in few-flowered clusters, purple, mauve or pink, rarely white, c. 3 cm in diameter. Fruit mostly 4-lobed, c. 15 mm in diameter, reddish-brown when ripe.

Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa as far as KwaZulu-Natal.
