Common names: Loquat (English)
Description: Small tree to 7 m. Branchlets rusty-tomentose. Leaves elliptic-oblong, large, to 25 cm, strongly veined, glossy above, rusty-tomentose beneath; margin serrate. Flowers white, in terminal panicles. Calyx lobes and petals 5. Ovary inferior. Ovules 2 per loculus. Fruit 4 cm, yellow. Seeds large, few.
Notes: An occasional, but very definite, escape in the E Highlands

Worldwide distribution: China and Japan
