Description:
Shrub or small tree, up to 7 m tall, densely pubescent on young branches and inflorescences. Leaves imparipinnate, 6-24 cm long with 5-15 pairs of leaflets.Leaflets oblong-ovate to oblong-obovate, mostly 2.5-4 cm long, rounded to notched at the apex, sometimes mucronate, pubescent on both surfaces. Inflorescences in pendulous 8-26-flowered racemes, 7-24 cm long. Flowers golden yellow. Pod flattened, 5-12 cm long with a narrowly winged suture, straw-coloured to brown when mature.

Derivation of specific name: aurea: golden.
Habitat: Along the margins of evergreen and riverine forest.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, CAR, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and eastern South Africa.
