Description:
Trailing perennial herb. Leaves 3-foliolate, with short petioles. Flowers in umbel-like inflorescences. Calyx with narrow lobes, these 2-4 times as long as the tube. Standard blue or white inside; wings yellow. Legume 1.2-1.6 cm, oblong-ellipsoid.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: variegata: irregularly coloured, blotched
Habitat: Open ground in woodland and wooded grassland
Altitude range: (metres) 800 - 1700 m

Worldwide distribution: South-central Africa, just extending into Tanzania and Shaba, DRC.
