Description:
Scandent shrub or liane, armed with spines. Branchlets hooked or coiled to aid climbing. Leaves imparipinnate with 11-19 elliptic to oblong-elliptic leaflets, up to 3.5 × 1.8 cm, apex rounded or slightly notched. Flowers in terminal or, rarely axillary panicles, small, white to yellowish. Pods flat, 4-12 cm long, 1-4-seeded, blackish over the seeds, indehiscent.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: fischeri: named after Dr Gustav Fischer (1848-1886), German doctor and naturalist, who collected in Kenya and Tanzania.
Habitat: In riverine and evergreen forest, Miombo woodland and dry deciduous thickets.
Altitude range: (metres) 400 - 1800 m
