Description: |
Slender deciduous tree. Bark grey, smooth but flaking in older trees; young parts covered in grey woolly hairs. Leaves often crowded on spur-branchlets, imparipinnate with 4-6 pairs of opposite or sub-opposite leaflets and a terminal leaflet; leaflets ovate to elliptic, 3-6 cm long, somewhat hairy above, covered with whitish woolly hairs below, at least on the midrib and veins, particularly when young; apex rounded; base asymmetric. Flowers in showy, more or less erect dense sub-terminal sprays, pale-violet to lilac, flowering with the leaves. Pod flattened, broadly elliptic, up to 7 × 3 cm, with a thickened rim, densely velvety, creamy brown. |

Habitat: | Occurring on rocky outcrops or in dry deciduous woodland and scrub, often with Colophospermum mopane. |
