Description:
Scrambling shrub or small tree. Most parts densely velvety. Leaves opposite, obovate, to elliptic, yellowish green above, paler below, densely covered in soft, short, fawn-coloured hairs on both surfaces, margins entire, sometimes glandular. Flowers in axillary and terminal branched heads, very small, yellow. Fruit 1-3 paddle-shaped carpels, up to 5 × 2.5 cm, oblong or elliptic, yellowish green, distinctly striated.

Derivation of specific name: buchananii: after John Buchanan (1855 – 1896), Scottish horticulturist, missionary, farmer and plant collector in Malawi, who became Acting British Consul to Central Africa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Buchanan_(settler).
Habitat: In dry woodland and scrub.
