Description:
Mostly a shrub but occasionally a suffrutex or small tree. Leaves imparipinnate with 5-9 leaflets; stipels 1-4.5 mm long, subulate-setaceous, erect or spreading. Leaflets: terminal 3-12 × 2-7 cm, broadly obovate-elliptic; apex rounded; lateral leaflets often narrower. Inflorescence a raceme of numerous flowers. The flowers are small and inconspicuous but the fruits have a very distinct "hockey-stick" shape.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: rhynchocarpa: with beaked fruit
Habitat: In Brachystegia woodland.
Altitude range: (metres) 1000 - 1600 m
Flowering time:Oct - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Angola. Burundi, CAR, DRC, Rwanda, Chad, Nigeria, Togo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
